M'Grotter was appointed Deputy Comptroller of Convicts at Bermuda by letter dated the 25th of May 1861, being at that date employed in the Royal Marines, or more likely the "Home Guards". He had a salary of £250 increasing by £10 annually. The limit of his salary was £300. He also had quarters.
In the spring of 1882 the Comptroller left Bermuda and afterwards returned for only a few weeks, during which reception Ester acted as Comptroller till he also left Bermuda in June 188... (or 186... as the exact year is unclear).
Mr Trotter prepared, and very well, the Convict Report for the year 1862.
The Governor's despatch No67 was strongly eulogistical in favour of Trotter and much in support with respect to the question of reemploying him in the convict business.
Mr Trotter's present address is 6 Parade Road, St Helier, Jersey.
